What I wanted to achieve: I am interested in all kinds of stuff and the website is a record of some of the things that I have been thinking about and doing lately. If the content is vaguely useful to anybody all the better. It's useful to me because, if I don't write it down I'll forget it.
How was it built?: I wanted to keep the website simple, and as pure HTML and css as possible. I don't like: the limitations of frameworks and website builders, being dependent on other people's developments, or paying for software that I can create myself (my software is also ad- and nag-free!), so I have used w3-css — a great base to start from — with a visual design created by myself. In total the three components of the website are, w3-css, HTML, and I didn't seem to be able to avoid some Java script to stitch everything together.
The Java script helps with the following, it:
I am familiar with HTML but to get started I had to learn HTML in detail, CSS and JavaScript. My primary source of reference material and answers has been w3.CSS and w3schools.com — excellent stuff. Another great source has been "stackoverflow" related sources, if you have an issue and can formulate a good question around it the (usually) someone has asked it before (and hopefully someone has answered it!).
I started the web site on the 9th of May and the first pass is finished 18th of July with 28 HTML pages, 17 movies (mp4, ogv, and webm), 4 audio files (mp3 and ogg), and 112 picture files (png, jpg, and gif). It has been "interesting". I still have a few articles to write including MCU circuits, schematics and software, a few recipes including Spelt bagels, and some other tips and tricks.
Assets: There are lots of Photos, rostrum photos, videos, 3d Models, graphics and the like in the website. These are almost all made by me. The tools that were used to build the site and make the assets include:
